TL;DR: Parking is a pain, the walk is easy, the sheep are aggressive, and the views are poor.
Hornby road runs through a valley in heart of Bowland. It runs from Slaidburn up to High Salter. This page only deals with the first few km of the road when parked at the Wray end.
The facts
- This side of the path is very hard to access. Therefore, you have to park far away and then walk up to it on tarmac lanes.
- The tarmac lanes are not public roads.
- The closest parking is GR SD 6005 6383.
- The walk itself is very easy and requires almost no navigation.
- At the point in time when I was there, all the sheep had long horns and were very skittish, and sometimes a bit aggressive.
- You walk past a bit of fence that you walk past that has dead rodents hanging on it. WARNING: this photo is

- The farms you walk through are dilapidated.
My Opinion
- The walk was worth doing the once to check the place out, in the future I will use to other routes to Hornby Road.
- There are no real views.
- It feels a bit desolate.
